And They're Off!!

Team Tiki Blue was cheered by an extensive group of friends and family as the final preparations were made to Tiki Blue and the last provisions were brought on board. A courtesy tow was provided by Dave and Jackie Liggett (on Jackrabbit) from the Richmond Yacht Club to the Start Line in San Francisco. Following close on Tiki Blue's heels to the Start Line was the Ay Caliente! support team. The race officially started at 1:40 PM (PST) at the St. Francis Yacht Club and team Tiki Blue was off to a fast and furious start today (Tuesday, July 15, 2008). All systems were a go and the Tiki Blue Crew was all smiles as they crossed under the Golden Gate Bridge, entering the great Pacific Ocean.

Blog updates from the crew will be posted daily. Track the progress of Tiki Blue by clicking here.

Wow, what a wonderful adventure. Hard to tell you how jealous I am. I think it's amazing that we can follow your progress. Looks like you guys had a great first day. Just wait till you get into the tropical blue ocean and flying fish territory. They're hysterical and will wind up on your deck.

Go for it guys; can't tell you how impressed I am.

PS. Did I ever tell you that it was at Kaneohe Bay YC that I learned to sail? (in 1964!) John Wayne was the honorary commodore that year, he was in Hawaii filming "In Harm's Way." Most of our dad's were technical advisors on the movies. Maybe there will be a photo at the YC of the Duke giving me my first sailing trophy at the age of 14... (likely not, but it's still a great memory :-)

Did Mike bring along any "technical manuals"? He usually prefers "Field and Stream"...
